Our History

In July 2006 Pastor John C. Gblah and a group of 10 adults met in the basement of his home with the goal of organizing a church for the proclamation of the Gospel.  This was in fulfillment of the “Great Commission”, “Go Ye Therefore” (Matt 28:19). The church soon outgrew the basement and went on to rent a meeting space, first in West Philadelphia, and now in South West Philadelphia.  At the heart of our mission at Agape is community outreach.  Agape hosts quarterly men’s breakfast and prayer walks, women’s trainings and youth outings. Our youth multi-cultural talent shows and other outreach activities provide a God-filled atmosphere of love and encouragement for young people in our church and community to showcase their talents. The above programs/activities allow men, women and children in the church and community to engage in positive interactions and develop healthy and meaningful relationships. Agape opens our doors to host community meetings at least twice a month which provides a place for community gatherings to address issues ranging from immigration to recently census preparation.
